Call for Information for Nordic Spirit 2012

The Scandinavian Cultural Society requests your help in obtaining photos and other materials for Nordic Spirit Festival 2012: The Lives They Left Behind to be held March 31 and April 1at the Scandinavian Community Centre. Nordic Spirit Festival will illuminate life and culture in Scandinavian countries from approximately 1850 to 1950. Scandinavian immigrants to BC brought with them attitudes and artefacts, skills and memories, and photos from their former lives. The old world may be unfamiliar to us now, yet it is important to understand, for, like other settlers, Scandinavians used their past experiences to shape and guide their contributions to their new country.

Nordic Spirit Festival will include a photo and artefact display, folk music concert, and talks and participatory activities such as cooking, crafts, and games. Many offerings will focus on children and young people as the audience. We need photos, tools and handiwork, books and letters, and your stories-anything that might illustrate the work, home life, school, church, or social activities of people in Nordic countries during this time.

We all have stories to tell. Please share your family photos and memories with us. Contact Judith Anderson (judithanderson@shaw.ca) or Carolyn Thauberger, 778-329-6964 or cthauber@interchange.ubc.ca
